Jewellery Care

Gold does not corrode, but its surface can dull over time. With the right care your pieces keep the shine they had on the first day.

Everyday wear

  • Put jewellery on after perfume, hairspray and cream; chemicals dull the surface.
  • Take it off before washing up, cleaning and swimming. Chlorine is particularly harsh on alloyed gold.
  • Remove it for sport and sleep; knocks and friction can loosen a setting.
  • Take it off before the sea; salt and sand scratch.

Cleaning at home

  1. 1Add a few drops of washing-up liquid to warm water.
  2. 2Let the piece soak for 10–15 minutes.
  3. 3Brush gently with a very soft toothbrush, including underneath the stones.
  4. 4Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
  5. 5Do NOT use toothpaste, baking soda, abrasive sponges or an ultrasonic cleaner.

Storage

  • Keep each piece in its own compartment or box; gold scratches gold.
  • Hang chains and necklaces open, or lay them flat, to stop them tangling.
  • Keep the box somewhere cool, dark and away from damp.

Pieces with stones

A diamond is hard, but the claws holding it can loosen over time. If you feel the stone move, stop wearing the piece and bring it to us. Softer stones such as emerald, opal and pearl are more sensitive to water and chemicals than diamond — wipe those with a dry soft cloth only.

Lifetime free care

Every piece bought from us comes with lifetime free care: cleaning, polishing and a claw check. Just book an appointment and bring it in.
